VdS previously
announced the following:
Forced opening of High Security
Locks by shock attacks
During testing of
light security safes according to EN 1143-1, respectively high security
containers according EN 14450, it appeared that occasionally the high security
locks could be forced by shock attacks. The container was lifted and thrown on
the floor. By this impact the lock or the bolt work could be manually unlocked.
For this reason
the VDS guidelines 2396 were expanded accordingly. New requirements for
resistance against high energy shocks were made and with a special reproducible test
procedure determined to make sure the locks will be resistant to high shock
attacks. The expansion of the guidelines are mentioned in amendment S1 of VDS
2396.
The expansion of
guidelines is valid from this moment on. There is a transition time until
31.12.2009 in which the manufacturer can test his locks against firm shock
attacks and when necessary improve the locks.
This involves
especially locks with solenoid as locking element. As you know,
our M-Locks have
a motorized locking element, and comply with these new requirements.
